Following an intense campaign spearheaded by media personality, Franky5, on honoring ace Ghanaian Gospel music legends at the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for their contributions to music in Ghana, two of these personalities belonging to the gospel fraternity were awarded last Saturday at the VGMAs
Veteran Gospel musicians, Rev. Mrs. Mary Ghansah and Prof. Kofi Abraham have been duly honored as the 20th VGMA Lifetime Achievement Award laureates.
Let’s take a brief look into their profiles and careers on the Ghanaian music scene over the years:
Rev. Mary Ghansah is an ordained Minister of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is a renowned gospel singer, a prolific songwriter and a worship leader who has written some of the many songs that we sing in our churches today both in Ghana and the world over. She has close to 20 albums to her credit in a career spanning over 40 years.
PROFESSOR KOFI ABRAHAM
The great composer, songwriter, and performer is known in real life as Abraham Kofi Boakye. His contribution to gospel music goes back to the 1970s and the indomitable role he played in the music industry opened the doors to the growth of gospel music in the country. Kofi Abraham, who was given the title ‘Professor’ at Koforidua by a member of the Late President Hilla Liman’s administration, was the head of the True Gospel Band and the Ashanti Regional Music Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
